COMPARISON OF THE REARINGS OF NILE TILAPIA Oreochromis niloticus (Linnaeus, 1758) FED WITH FLOATING EXTRUDED PELLETED FEEDS IN PONDS AND FLOATING CAGES IN THE SUD-COMOE REGION, COTE D'IVOIRE: Competitiveness of feeding and rearing
The present study evaluates the productivity of Oreochromis niloticus farming in floating cages and ponds to estimate their potential contribution to farmed fish production. Data were collected on farming practices, fish growth, marketable fish production, and economic parameters from six fish farms, including three floating-cage farms and three pond farms. The results show that the surveyed fish farmers are experienced, hire technical staff, practice monoculture of Oreochromis niloticus, and adhere to good farming practices. In both ponds and floating cages, these fish farmers use imported commercial feeds tailored to the fish's different growth stages. In floating cages, the rearing duration for Oreochromis niloticus from 9.00 ± 1.15 g to 600.00 ± 86.60 g was 6.71 ± 0.62 months, with an average daily weight gain of 2.98 ± 0.09 g/day. In contrast, in ponds, the rearing period for Oreochromis niloticus from 10 ± 0.00 g to 500.00 ± 0.00 g was 6.78 ± 1.35 months, with an average daily weight gain of 2.47 ± 0.44 g/day. The annual capacity for marketable fish production is closely linked to the facilities' capacity and the promoter's level of funding. However, at similar production levels, profit margins are higher in pond farming than in floating-cage farming. It would be opportune to make quality feeds accessible to the majority of fish farmers and to implement technical strategies for monitoring and financing pond farming to increase growth, production, and profitability of the fish farms.

Prevalence of carriage and antibiotic resistance profile of E. coli O157:H7 strains isolated from laying hens from modern poultry farms in the municipality of Bouaké (central Côte d'Ivoire): Preliminary study
Escherichia coli O157:H7 is a pathogen carried by poultry that poses a significant health risk due to its zoonotic nature and its resistance to many antibiotics. This study aims to fill the gap in information on the role that poultry may play in the epidemiology of E. coli O157:H7 in the municipality of Bouaké. To this end, two surveys were conducted in the urban and peri-urban areas of this locality. The first survey assessed the knowledge, attitudes and practices of egg producers regarding the use of antibiotics. This survey was followed by a bacteriological study of 297 cloacal swab samples from laying hens from 99 farms. These samples were enriched and then cultured in a specific chromogenic medium. Of the 297 samples examined, 195 (65.66%) were positive for E. coli O157:H7. At farm level, 81.82% (81/99) of the farms sampled were positive. Among these, the carriage of E. coli O157:H7 was higher (50.77%) in young hens (18 to 30 weeks old) than in older poultry. However, out of 66 isolates of E. coli O157:H7 selected from among the 195 positive samples and subjected to an antibiogram, 86.36% showed resistance to amoxicillin, compared with 68.18% 59.09% and 27.27% respectively to spiramycin, gentamicin and tetracycline. All isolates tested were resistant to at least one antibiotic. This preliminary study showed a high prevalence of E. coli O157:H7 in laying hen farms in the municipality of Bouaké and a high resistance to commonly used antimicrobials. Further study is needed to better understand the sources of E. coli O157:H7 contamination in poultry.
