The theory of reachability in trace-pushdown systems

We consider pushdown systems that store, instead of a single word, a Mazurkiewicz trace on its stack. These systems are special cases of valence automata over graph monoids and subsume multi-stack systems. We identify a class of such systems that allow to decide the first-order theory of their configuration graph with reachability. This result complements results by D'Osualdo, Meyer, and Zetzsche (namely the decidability for arbitrary pushdown systems under a severe restriction on the dependence alphabet).

Paired Disjunctive Domination Number of Middle Graphs

The concept of domination in graphs plays a central role in understanding structural properties and applications in network theory. In this study, we focus on the paired disjunctive domination number in the context of middle graphs, a transformation that captures both adjacency and incidence relations of the original graph. We begin by investigating this parameter for middle graphs of several special graph classes, including path graphs, cycle graphs, wheel graphs, complete graphs, complete bipartite graphs, star graphs, friendship graphs, and double star graphs. We then present general results by establishing lower and upper bounds for the paired disjunctive domination number in middle graphs of arbitrary graphs, with particular emphasis on trees. Additionally, we determine the exact value of the parameter for middle graphs obtained through the join operation. These findings contribute to the broader understanding of domination-type parameters in transformed graph structures and offer new insights into their combinatorial behavior.

Vanishing Coefficient Results in Three Families of Infinite q-products

In the recent past, the work in the area of vanishing coefficients of infinite $q$-products has been taken to the forefront. Weaving the same thread as Ramanujan, Richmond, Szekeres, Andrews, Alladi, Gordon, Mc Laughlin, Baruah, Kaur, Tang, we further prove vanishing coefficients in arithmetic progressions moduli 5, 7, 11, 13, 17, 19 and 29 of the following four families of infinite products, where $\{X_{a,b,sm,km,u,v}(n)\}_{n\geq n_0}$, $\{Y_{a,b,sm,km,u,v}(n)\}_{n\geq n_0}$ and $\{Z_{a,b,sm,km,u,v}(n)\}_{n\geq n_0}$ are defined by\begin{align*}\sum_{n\geq n_0}^{\infty}X_{a,b,sm,km,u,v}(n)q^n:=&\p(q^{a},q^{sm-a};q^{sm})^u\p(q^{b},q^{km-b};q^{km})^v, \\\sum_{n\geq n_0}^{\infty}Y_{a,b,sm,km,u,v}(n)q^n:=&\p(q^{a},q^{sm-a};q^{sm})^u\p(-q^{b},-q^{km-b};q^{km})^v, \\\sum_{n\geq n_0}^{\infty}Z_{a,b,sm,km,u,v}(n)q^n:=&\p(-q^{a},-q^{sm-a};q^{sm})^u\p(q^{b},q^{km-b};q^{km})^v,\end{align*}here $a, b, s, k, u$ and $v$ are chosen in such a way that the infinite products in the right-hand side of the above are convergent and $n_0$ is an integer (possibly negative or zero) depending on $a, b, s, k, u$ and $v$. The proof uses the Jacobi triple product identity and the properties of Ramanujan general theta function.

Modular transform of free fermion generalised Gibbs ensembles and generalised power partitions

In [1] a conjecture for the modular transformation of the free fermion generalised Gibbs ensemble (GGE) was given where only the KdV charge associated to the weight four quasi primary field was inserted. In this paper we first generalise this conjecture to the case with an arbitrary, finite collection of KdV charges in the GGE. These GGEs are generalisations of the generating function of power partitions. We prove the conjectured transformation for the case with a finite number of charges inserted and discuss the case with an infinite number of charges.

Quantifying Shakespeare's Iambic Pentameter: A Metric Variability Analysis

This study develops and evaluates a computational framework for quantifying the metrical organization of Shakespeare's complete sequence of 154 sonnets. Rather than treating poetic metre as a collection of individually interpreted deviations, the framework models the relationship between lexical stress and iambic pentameter as a reproducible binary sequential structure. The corpus comprises 2,155 poetic lines, subjected to pronunciation normalization, Early Modern English correction, lexical-stress extraction, alternative metrical alignment, and minimum-deviation optimization. Automated stress assignment achieves 95.1\% agreement with independently verified annotations, providing a validated basis for subsequent corpus-level analysis. The resulting metrical representations are examined through deviation-density measures, Shannon entropy, position-specific entropy, first-order Markov transitions, principal component analysis, hierarchical clustering, recurrence analysis, and Monte Carlo hypothesis testing. The empirical results reveal a metrical system characterized by strong regularity without mechanical uniformity. Deviations exhibit pronounced positional heterogeneity, while the transition from deviation to metrical agreement occurs with probability 0.8778, indicating strong local recovery following departures from the reference pattern. Multivariate analysis shows that metrical variability is distributed across multiple dimensions rather than governed by a single latent factor: the first five principal components explain 58.40\% of variance and the first nine explain 93.35\%. Hierarchical clustering identifies a dominant metrical profile comprising 82.69\% of poetic lines alongside smaller rhythmic substructures. Most strikingly, only 174 distinct binary configurations occur across the 2,155 lines, with the observed recurrence rate of 0.020656 approximately ten times the 0.002042 mean generated by the specified randomized null model ($p<0.0001$). These findings provide quantitative evidence that Shakespearean metre is neither rigidly mechanical nor randomly variable. Instead, it exhibits a structured interaction of constraint, sequential dependence, recurrent rhythmic configurations, and continuous variation. The proposed framework transforms metrical organization into a reproducible computational object while retaining its connection to historical pronunciation and traditional prosodic scholarship, and provides a transferable methodology for quantitative studies of poetic form across authors, periods, and verse traditions.

Dialect Cartography of Erzya and Moksha Languages: Digitized Historical Sources and Evaluation of the Contemporary Data

This study investigates the correspondences between a recent map of Uralic languages that also covers the Erzya and Moksha languages in detail. We discuss our point of view in linguistic cartography more generally, but especially within the context of Uralic languages, and address various difficulties that can be recognized in defining the speaker area boundaries and choosing settlements that should be included in the traditional or contemporary speech communities. We use the historical data of Heikki Paasonen, which, we believe, is a highly reliable indicator of at least some areas that should be included in the traditional distributions of these languages as points of comparison. This data is contrasted with the contemporary language maps.

LURK: Lambda, the ultimate recursive knowledge: (Experience Report)

We introduce Lurk, a new LISP-based programming language for zk-SNARKs. Traditional approaches to programming over zero-knowledge proofs require compiling the desired computation into a flat circuit, imposing serious constraints on the size and complexity of computations that can be achieved in practice. Lurk programs are instead provided as data to the universal Lurk interpreter circuit, allowing the resulting language to be Turing-complete without compromising the size of the resulting proof artifacts. Our work describes the design and theory behind Lurk, along with detailing how its implementation of content-addressing can be used to sidestep many of the usual concerns of programming zero-knowledge proofs.

Classifying Prime Character Degree Graphs With Eight Vertices

In this paper, an effort is made to classify which prime character degree graphs having eight vertices occur for some finite solvable group. To approach this, we compile known results and constructions from the literature which are used to develop a general algorithm to begin classifying graphs of any order. We then apply the algorithm to the graphs of order eight. Of the 12,346 non-isomorphic graphs with eight vertices, 1,229 are disconnected and are fully classified. Meanwhile, thirty-seven of the 11,117 non-isomorphic connected graphs are shown to occur; thirty-four of which are constructed via joins of smaller graphs and three of which have diameter three. Fifty-eight graphs are shown not to occur, several of which fall into previously studied families, while the classification of 204 graphs is still unknown.

A note on test elements for monomorphisms of free groups

A word in a group is called a test element if any endomorphism fixing it is necessarily an automorphism. In this note, we give a sufficient condition in geometry to construct test elements for monomorphisms of a free group, by using the Whitehead graph and the action of the free group on its Cayley graph.

Geospatial challenges for urban projects environmental impact assessment

Reducing the environmental impact of the building stock (construction, use, rehabilitation, end of life) is essential in order to achieve a sustainable rate of consumption of the planet's resources. Life cycle analysis (LCA) enables stakeholders to assess several categories of impact of an urban project (damage to human health, damage to biodiversity, etc.) in order to make the most sober choices. This assessment requires a large amount of data that is as representative as possible of the concerned territories. In view of the difficulties encountered in taking into account the geographical dimension, an exploratory interdisciplinary project has been launched to identify spatial challenges to overcome when carrying out a LCA of an urban project. This article presents the initial results of the project, beginning with a description of the issues involved in the spatialization of LCA, followed by a description of some of the challenges encountered more specifically in the context of LCA of urban projects. The aim is to help define a research programme to improve the way in which the geographical dimension is taken into account in the LCA of urban projects, and to inform the geospatial scientific community of the problems encountered by environmental assessment researchers working to provide professional communities with robust and reliable LCA methods and tools.

Process of change: states, transitions, and determinants

The goal of persuasion is to change the behaviour or the attitude of a person without using any form of coercion (Oinas et al. 2010). In the last ten years, several models, approaches and theories have been developed in the research field of persuasion, producing a copious scientific literature. Different reviews of the state-of-the-art focusing on specific aspects have been proposed. Pindel et al. (Pinder et al. 2018) for example analyse the state of the art under the perspective of the mechanisms that lead to the habit forming. In this work, we report a state-of-the-art review on the key elements of the process of change using the concepts of states, transitions, and determinants to propose a common generic paradigm. We conclude with a discussion about the operationalization of persuasive processes and with a comparative analysis on the reviewed theories.

Bilevel Optimization of the Kantorovich Problem and its Quadratic Regularization Part III: The Finite-Dimensional Case

As the title suggests, this is the third paper in a series addressing bilevel optimization problems that are governed by the Kantorovich problem of optimal transport. These tasks can be reformulated as mathematical problems with complementarity constraints in the space of regular Borel measures. Due to the nonsmoothness that is introduced by the complementarity constraints, such problems are often regularized, for instance, using entropic regularization. In this series of papers, however, we apply a quadratic regularization to the Kantorovich problem. By doing so, we enhance its numerical properties while preserving the sparsity structure of the optimal transportation plan as much as possible. While the first two papers in this series focus on the well-posedness of the regularized bilevel problems and the approximation of solutions to the bilevel optimization problem in the infinite-dimensional case, in this paper, we reproduce these results for the finite-dimensional case and present findings that go well beyond the ones of the previous papers and pave the way for the numerical treatment of the bilevel problems.

A trust-region method for optimal control of ODEs with continuous-or-off controls and TV regularization

A solution algorithm for a special class of optimal control problems subject to an ordinary differential equation is proposed. The controls possess a continuous-or-off structure and are priced by a convex function. Additionally, a total variation regularization is applied to penalize switches. Our solution method combines a trust-region method and a proximal gradient method. The subproblems are solved via Bellman's optimality principle. Convergence with respect to a criticality measure is proven. As a numerical example, we solve a simple optimal control problem involving an SIR model.

Sensitivity analyses and parameter fitting of biphasic articular cartilage model

This dataset contains a zip of the used program FEBio as well as all files and produced results for the investigations presented in Egli et al.. Therein, we combine experiments with sensitivity analyses (SAs) and simulations of a biphasic model of three boundary value problems (BVPs): uniaxial tension (UT), confined compression (CC) and biaxial tension (BT). The folders UT, CC and BT contain everything concerning the respective BVPs. I.e. all used python scripts, generated results and a readme.txt on where to find what and how to run it. The zip files SA_UT and SA_CC contain everything concerning the SAs on UT and CC. The corresponding instructions on how to run the SAs can be found in readme_SA_CC.txt and readme_SA_UT.txt. readme_general.txt gives a short overview of what in this dataset contains what.

We show that this construction gives a pre-Lie algebra if, and only if, the map $ϕ$ satisfies a commutation relation, called tree-compatibility. We show how to extend this pre-Lie algebra structure to a post-Lie one by a semi-direct extension with another post-Lie algebra. We also define several constructions to obtain tree-compatible maps, and give examples, including a description of all tree-admissible maps when the space of decorations of the vertices is $2$-dimensional and the space of decorations of the edges is finite-dimensional. A particular example of such a construction is used by Bruned, Hairer and Zambotti for the study of stochastic partial differential equations: when no noise is involved, we show that the underlying tree-compatible map is the exponential of a simpler one and deduce an explicit isomorphism with a classical pre-Lie algebra of rooted trees; when a noise is involved, we obtain the underlying tree-compatible map as a direct sum. We also obtain with our formalism the post-Lie algebras described by Bruned and Katsetsiadis.

An interdisciplinary essay on theories of the firm and organization.

This study examines the relationship among economics, strategic management, organizational studies, and economic sociology-four interconnected fields concerned with firms and organizations-from an interdisciplinary perspective. The argument is advanced that a descriptive approach, rather than a prescriptive one, more effectively illuminates their interactions. Recent natural and spontaneous interactions are highlighted as valuable for evaluating the effectiveness of interdisciplinary engagement. This perspective is grounded in three observations about major developments in these disciplines over the past fifty years. First, while all four fields focus on firms and organizations, they frequently operate in isolation despite overlapping interests. Second, the interactions among these disciplines should be analyzed with reference to the philosophical foundations of interdisciplinarity, particularly the ways in which disciplinary boundaries, methodological assumptions, and epistemological traditions shape knowledge production. Third, the study investigates the extent to which these interdisciplinary interactions contribute to the accumulation of knowledge. Ultimately, it is argued that adopting the complexity perspective is the most effective means of fostering interdisciplinary relationships, as it balances autonomy and collaboration, promotes pluralism, and supports authentic interdisciplinary work.

Messianic Economics. The Entrepreneur as the Agent of Uncertain Futures in Modern Economic Ecosystems

Economic innovation and transformation are future-oriented fields where financial risk-return and economic growth considerations permeate with visions of technological progress and cultural determinants of human behavior. This case study about the evolution of the entrepreneurial persona in the history of economic thought demonstrates how narrative research can contribute to understanding the growth dynamics of economic ecosystems. Rather than being indicators of flaws in otherwise rational economic processes, narrative twists and turns reflect the institutional and cultural preconditions of economic growth and innovation.

Since the early days of industrialization, economic thought takes recourse to the institutional persona of the entrepreneur to explain dynamics of innovation and transformative growth. The descriptions of the entrepreneur in the works of Robert Cantillon, Joseph Schumpeter and Frank Knight show how the parameters of innovation, cristallized in the features of entrepreneurial activity, change along the trajectories of, and reflect, industrial and economic development. What these descriptions have in common are the fundamental features of innovative activity in otherwise steady economic ecosystems: the ability to embrace the uncertainty of a future venture through an informed view about future market demand; the stamina to impose change to incumbent structures and processes; and the acumen to mobilize ample financial funding to realize an innovative venture.

The current debate around artificial intelligence and its potential to generate unprecedented future growth goes along with a messianic turn in the discourse about entrepreneurial activity. In the current debate about AI-led innovation, the entrepreneurial narrative, unchanged at its core, takes on a quasi-spiritual dimension. Entrepreneurs appear as saviour-like personae, able to break through a state of general stagnation and decline in order to enable not less than a new, technology-fuelled chapter for humanity. While the jury is out whether this scenario will unfold, the messianic turn of the entrepreneurial discourse shows that the instruments of mainstream economics do not seem to be suited to assess the growth dynamics of AI-led innovation. To assess this messianic turn of the entrepreneur and its bearings for future economic growth trajectories, a narrative turn in economic research appears warranted.

The core-mantle mode of gravitational oscillation

We present the characteristics of a mode of axial oscillation between Earth's mantle, fluid core and solid inner core that has not been previously reported.  The mode involves a quasi-rigid rotation of the fluid core outside the tangent cylinder (TC) exchanging its angular momentum with the mantle via a three step process. First, by a magnetic torque with the fluid inside the TC; second by a magnetic torque between the latter and the inner core; and finally by a gravitational torque between the inner core and mantle.  Although the gravitational torque is purely between the mantle and inner core, the mode involves an oscillation of the whole of the core, and we refer to it as the core-mantle gravitational (CMG) mode. This form of gravitational oscillation occurs when the magnetic field within the core is sufficiently strong that the propagation time of Alfvén waves is shorter than the mode period, which is the case for Earth.  We show how the period, quality factor $Q$ and structure of the CMG mode depends on the strength of the gravitational torque and viscous relaxation time $\tau_i$ of the inner core.  For Earth, the CGM mode period should be in the range of 40 to 100 years, but viscous relaxation of the inner core likely implies a small $Q$, below 1 if $\tau_i<10$ years. Our results suggest that the CMG mode may act to amplify resonantly, though only modestly, multi-decadal changes in the length of day driven by zonal accelerations in the fluid core.

Using paleomagnetic observations and geodynamo simulations to assess Earth's magnetic field morphology and variability

Multiple strategies have been suggested for quantitatively comparing numerical dynamo simulations to geomagnetic field models and paleomagnetic observations. Observationally-constrained metrics are designed to infer properties of simulations that are required to produce Earth-like behaviour and enable inferences on otherwise inaccessible properties of the geomagnetic field, such as its long-term spatio-temporal behaviour at the core-mantle boundary. However, these criteria are derived from data spanning differing timescales with fundamentally different spatio-temporal resolution, are often applied in isolation, and may not be independent assessments, so that holistic syntheses of simulated and observed field variations are currently lacking. In this work, we apply 14 existing criteria measuring field morphological and variability properties on centennial to million-year timescales to a database of 207 dynamos. Individual metrics are matched over various ranges of core-mantle boundary dipolarity (𝑓𝑑 ) and its temporal variability (𝛿 𝑓𝑑 ), though no single range conforms with all proposed metrics. The greatest overlap between simulations matching disparate criteria occurs for 𝑓𝑑 = 0.50−0.64, which is lower than the modern field value of 0.65−0.71 (1900-2025). Earth-like dynamos tend to have magnetic/kinetic energy ratio >1, consistent with a MAC force balance, and require a magnetic Reynolds number 𝑅𝑚 = 750−1200 to match the secular variation timescale. Simulations in our dataset exhibit reduced temporal variability at moderate dipolarity (𝑓𝑑 ∼ 0.5) compared to inferences from global field models, which hinders their capacity to produce Earth-like polarity reversals. This is a correction of the original manuscript where the 𝑓𝑑 value in 2025.0 was incorrectly stated. We thank Julien Aubert for his careful reading and suggestion which is now incorporated.

One-dimensional elastoplastic models with isotropic hardening as differential inclusions in primal form

To improve the numerical simulation of rockfall protection barriers, this work addresses an extension of a one-dimensional model for elastoplasticity using a friction element and a spring in series, to include isotropic hardening and unilateral behavior. We reformulate the resulting system of differential inclusions in primal form and develop a timestepping scheme via an extended version of Moreau's midpoint rule. The scheme handles nonsmooth dynamics consistently, allowing to include frictional contact and impacts. The results provide a rigorous and implementable framework for simulating coupled elastoplastic frictional contact systems, contributing to the analysis and computation of nonsmooth rate-independent processes.

A mixed Petrov-Galerkin Cosserat rod finite element formulation

This paper presents a total Lagrangian mixed Petrov-Galerkin finite element formulation that provides a computationally efficient approach for analyzing Cosserat rods that is free of singularities and locking. To achieve a singularity-free orientation parametrization of the rod, the nodal kinematical unknowns are defined as the nodal centerline positions and unit quaternions. We apply Lagrange interpolation to all nodal kinematic coordinates, and in combination with a projection of non-unit quaternions, this leads to an interpolation with orthonormal cross-section-fixed bases. To eliminate locking effects such as shear locking, the variational Hellinger-Reissner principle is applied, resulting in a mixed approach with additional fields composed of resultant contact forces and moments. Since the mixed formulation contains the constitutive law in compliance form, it naturally incorporates constrained theories, such as the Kirchhoff-Love theory. This study specifically examines the influence of the additional internal force fields on the numerical performance, including locking mitigation and robustness. Using well-established benchmark examples, the method demonstrates enhanced computational robustness and efficiency, as evidenced by the reduction in required load steps and iterations when applying the standard Newton-Raphson method.

Structural Liveness of Conservative Petri Nets

We show that the EXPSPACE-hardness result for structural liveness of Petri nets [Jancar and Purser, 2019] holds even for a simple subclass of conservative nets. As our main result, we prove that for structurally live conservative nets, the values of the minimal live markings are at most doubly exponential in the size of the net. This implies the EXPSPACE-completeness of structural liveness for conservative Petri nets. The result also applies to structurally bounded Petri nets, whereas the complexity of the general case remains open. As a proof ingredient of independent interest, we present an extension of known results on the bounds of minimal integer solutions to Boolean combinations of linear equalities, inequalities, and divisibility constraints.

Loops, Inverse Limits and Non-Determinism

We introduce an operator on problems in Weihrauch complexity, which we call the infinite loop or inverse limit, and which corresponds to an infinite compositional product. This operation arises naturally whenever one implements algorithms that produce a sequence of results in an infinite loop, using some fixed subroutine. We prove that the corresponding operator is monotone with respect to (strong) Weihrauch reducibility but that it is not a closure operator. One of our findings is that weak Kőnig's lemma is closed under infinite loops, which implies that the class of non-deterministically computable problems is also closed under this operation. Consequently, this class allows for a high degree of flexibility in programming. As our main technical tools, we present an injective version of the recursion theorem and an infinitary version of the so-called independent choice theorem. We also show that, in general, the infinite loop operator is more powerful than the composition of the diamond operator followed by the parallelization operator. However, in many practical scenarios, these compositions yield a result, which coincides with the application of the infinite loop operator. Finally, we discuss the special situation of loops for single-valued problems and for problems on Turing degrees.

Nonparametric estimation of the jump rate in mean field interacting systems of neurons

We consider finite systems of $N$ interacting neurons described by non-linear Hawkes processes in a mean field frame. Neurons are described by their membrane potential. They spike randomly, at a rate depending on their potential. In between successive spikes, their membrane potential follows a deterministic flow. We estimate the spiking rate function based on the observation of the system of $N$ neurons over a fixed time interval $[0,t]$. Asymptotic are taken as $N,$ the number of neurons, tends to infinity. We introduce a kernel estimator of Nadaraya-Watson type and discuss its asymptotic properties with help of the deterministic dynamical system describing the mean field limit. We compute the minimax rate of convergence in an $L^2 -$error loss over a range of Hölder classes and obtain the classical rate of convergence $ N^{ - 2β/ ( 2 β+ 1)} , $ where $ β$ is the regularity of the unknown spiking rate function.

A sub-Riemannian model of neural states in the primary motor cortex

We develop a neurogeometric model for the arm area of motor cortex, which encodes complex motor primitives, ranging from simple movement features like movement direction, to short hand trajectories, termed fragments, and ultimately to more complex patterns known as neural states (Georgopoulos, Hatsopoulos, Kadmon-Harpaz et al). Based on the sub-riemannian framework introduced in 2023, we model the space of fragments as a set of short curves defined by kinematic parameters. We then introduce a geometric kernel that serves as a model for cortical connectivity and use it in a differential equation to describe cortical activity. By applying a grouping algorithm to this cortical activity model, we successfully recover the neural states observed in Kadmon-Harpaz et al, which were based on measured cortical activity. This confirms that the choice of kinematic variables and the distance metric used here are sufficient to explain the phenomena of neural state formation. The modularity of our model reflects the brain's hierarchical structure, where initial groupings in the kinematic space $\mathcal{M}$ lead to more abstract representations. This approach mimics how the brain processes stimuli at different scales, extracting both local and global properties.

Femwashing in Women’s Sports: When Commitment Fades After Competition

This article introduces the concept of femwashing within the field of sports marketing and corporate social responsibility (CSR). The term, which first appeared in online usage in 2017 and has been mobilized in academic research since 2022-2023 (Haggren, 2022; Walters, R. 2022), follows the trajectory of other “washing” practices such as greenwashing (Delmas & Burbano, 2011; Lyon & Montgomery, 2015) or pinkwashing (King, 2006). We define femwashing as the opportunistic display of egalitarian commitments without sustainable organizational transformation or structural support for women.Based on a qualitative analysis of emblematic campaigns (Adidas, Nike, Visa, Orange), we highlight a typology of femwashing in sports, structured into three forms: event-based, stereotypical, and organizational. Beyond being a simple extension of existing washings, femwashing serves as an analytical lens for examining the relationship between media visibility and CSR governance. From a theoretical perspective, it enriches the taxonomy of washing practices and bridges two domains that have remained largely siloed: CSR and sports sponsorship. From a managerial perspective, it questions organizational authenticity and opens new avenues for innovation in corporate engagement with women’s sports.

Analysis of values in the statutes of sports clubs: The case of clubs in Ticino and Vaud

This study examines how sports clubs in the Swiss cantons of Ticino and Vaud integrate ethical and social values into their governance by analysing their statutes. Sports clubs, as central actors in youth socialization, serve as key venues for the dissemination of values. The aim is to assess the extent to which these values are formalized, made explicit, and aligned with the Swiss Olympics’ Ethics Charter.A total of 190 statutes from clubs affiliated with various federations were analysed using a qualitative approach (MAXQDA). The coding framework was based on the values promoted by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), UNESCO, and Swiss Olympic. The results show that the promotion of sport (160 mentions) and team spirit (83 mentions) are the most frequent themes, while moral and ethical principles are less commonly cited (41 mentions). The complete absence of the verb “to transmit,” despite its centrality in the Ethics Charter, reveals a lack of formalization in how values are conveyed. Ticino clubs more frequently reference the Ethics Charter, whereas Vaud clubs place greater emphasis on fair play and anti-doping measures. These findings highlight a gap between the recognition of values and their practical implementation. To enhance the effective transmission of values to young athletes, it is necessary to harmonize the drafting of statutes, introduce training initiatives, and include monitoring mechanisms.

Integration of PDEs via C∞-structures

Following classical method of differential constraints, interpreted in jet space, we present a constructive procedure for the integration of partial differential equations (PDEs). The approach consists of adjoining compatible auxiliary equations to reduce the PDE to a finitetype system in which the Vessiot distribution becomes involutive on an open set. Rather than classical solvable structures, we employ C∞-structures of distributions, a generalization with relaxed bracket conditions that are systematically easier to construct, yet still guarantee integration through successive Pfaffian equations. Three explicit examples illustrate the method: the linear wave equation with affine constraints, the Liouville equation, and a non-trivial rational nonlinear PDE. In every case the procedure yields an explicit family of solutions.

Volterra-Bogoyavlensky lattices and solutions of $A_{2n}^{(1)}$ invariant Painlevé equations

The objective of this work is to develop a framework that exploits the lattice structure of the $k$-th Volterra--Bogoyavlensky equations ($k\in\mathbb N$, $k>1$) to generate rational solutions of higher symmetric Painlevé equations. For $k=2$, we show that the Volterra lattice, equipped with suitable initial conditions, exactly models the one- and two-dimensional orbits generated by half-translation operators of the $A_2^{(1)}$ symmetric Painlevé IV equations. This correspondence yields explicit closed-form expressions for all solution components in terms of generalized Okamoto polynomials and leads to new algebraic recurrence relations among these polynomials. We present two generalizations of the above Volterra lattice. One is derived from a fractional translation of the $A_{4}^{(1)}$ symmetric Painlevé equations. It generalizes Volterra lattice structure in the multi-component setup of the affine $A_{4}^{(1)}$ group and it is shown to generate solutions of the $A_{4}^{(1)}$ symmetric Painlevé equations from the seed solution invariant under dihedral group $D_{5}$. The other is the $k=3$ Bogoyavlensky lattice structure. It satisfies recurrence relations that naturally extend recurrence relations of the Volterra lattice. These results shed light on connection between Volterra--Bogoyavlensky lattices, dihedral symmetries, and rational solutions of higher Painlevé systems.

Dynamics of an impulse dielectric barrier discharge in pure ammonia gas using electrical characteristics and imaging analysis

A glow nanosecond discharge from a plane-to-plane impulse dielectric barrier discharge (iDBD) with ammonia gas has been characterised by employing fast imaging and electrical diagnostics. More precisely, the aim of this study is to investigate the dynamics of the discharge establishment under various conditions of applied voltage, pressure, and gas gap. The comparison between the current measurements and the image analysis exposes a strong correlation between the fast excitation and ionization wave velocity and the rising current velocity. This correlation has been found only for diffuse mode discharge since a front wave could be clearly defined, denoted as the luminous propagation front (LPF). Furthermore, this correlation is supported by a proportionality factor of 1.5 10$^{-3}$ which is systematic over the studied conditions. Further investigations are considered to evaluate the relevance of such a value over more parameters.

Surface dielectric barrier discharge - From O3 mode to NOx mode as a function of dielectric temperature

Surface dielectric barrier discharges (SDBDs) operating in atmospheric air are efficient sources of reactive oxygen and nitrogen species (RONS), making them promising candidates for food decontamination applications. However, their chemical output strongly depends on operating conditions and environmental humidity that can affect treatment efficacy and reproducibility. In this work, we characterize the transition between ozone-dominant (O3 mode) and nitrogen-oxidesdominant (NOX mode) operating regimes by combining ICCD imaging, optical emission spectroscopy, and time-resolved absorption measurements of O3 and NO2 . We demonstrate that an increase of the applied voltage and the dielectric temperature accelerates the shift from net ozone production to rapid O₃ destruction driven by NOx catalytic cycles, while water vapor further suppresses ozone formation through enhanced OH-and H-driven reactions. Spatiotemporal ICCD measurements reveal that humidity simultaneously modifies streamer morphology and enhances overall plasma intensity. These findings establish quantitative operating windows to control RONS production for applications requiring either oxidative (O3 -rich) or nitrosative (NOx -rich) biocidal environments, providing essential knowledge for optimizing plasma-based food safety technologies.

IS IT APPROPRIATE TO USE PATIENT EDUCATORS IN THE OSCE?

Introduction : As part of the reform of the second cycle of medical studies, a collaborative development process was implemented. Methods: This was initiated with patient partners, medical students and clinical tutors. The central idea is a consultation between students and patient partners within each OSCE rotation, followed by a systematic debriefing session, thereby making the OSCE rotations formative. Results: This initiative has been institutionalised since 2022 in a medical school as a compulsory formative assessment at the end of the general practice clinical rotation. Discussion: It enables a rethinking of the role of these OSCE within the learning process offered to postgraduate medical students by integrating a progressive approach specific to pedagogical processes into the competency-based approach. Conclusion: Both students and supervisors, doctors and patients alike, perceive the benefits, which invites reflection on possible adjustments to this reform of postgraduate medical education. This is what this article aims to shed light on.

Teaching medicine with patients as partners : A mapping of patient involvement in a family medicine residency program

Background: Across Canada and around the world, an increasing number of residency programs are seeking to involve patient partners in their academic curricula, yet few detailed examples exist at the postgraduate level. Objective: To describe an innovative initiative integrating patient partners into the Family Medicine Residency Program at the Université de Montréal (UdeM), grounded in the Montreal Model of patient partnership.Description: In this program, which welcomes approximately 350 residents, patients are involved at multiple levels: governance (Educational Council, new site development committee, resident orientation), assessment (admissions committee, competency evaluation committee, direct feedback), continuing education (communication workshops, participation in mental health clinical teams, quality improvement projects), and teaching activities (co-developed and co-facilitated courses). These initiatives are supported by structured supervision from the Office of Patient Partnership, ensuring methodological rigor and alignment with the primary care context. Results: This approach, recognized as exemplary by the joint CFPC/CMQ accreditation, offers a transferable model grounded in the principles of co-construction and the valuing of experiential knowledge. Conclusion: This description provides concrete examples and actionable insights for programs seeking to sustainably integrate patients into postgraduate curricula and to contribute to the democratization of knowledge in health care.

Analysis of commercialization system of local guinea fowl (Numida meleagris) in the township of Lomé (Togo)

The purpose of this study is to analyze the marketing system of local guinea fowl in municipality of Lomé. A survey was conducted among 54 traders in 10 markets in the municipality. A total of three types of actors were identified in the local guinea-fowl marketing chain: The wholesalers, the urban resellers and the retailers. Analysis of the data reveals that the majority of traders are married people (93%) and aged of 41 ± 11 years. The activity is inherited from a parent (72%) and constitutes an essential source of income to meet basic needs. In addition, the study reveals a strong representation of retailers (68%) in the market made up of women, of Ewé ethnic group, 90% of whom originated from Maritime region. Our results showed that the savannah region is the main source of local guinea fowl for the municipality of Lomé in Togo. Wholesalers and urban retailers are the major players, earning profits of 358.33 F CFA and 357.48 F CFA per guinea fowl sold, respectively, which is significantly higher than that of retailers who only earn net unit surplus of 98.48 F CFA. Overall, the marketing of local guinea fowl in the municipality of Lomé is a profitable business and deserves to be supported in order to improve the distribution of income among stakeholders with a view to sustainable development. This support will be more effective if actions are developed to promote local guinea fowl and the marketing of its products.

Specificity of the knowledge in logic and its consequences on Klein's double discontinuity

In mathematics, logic is a field with a specific and transversal status. Indeed, it allows us to describe, control and validate mathematical activity. Therefore, it seems relevant to teach it in mathematics' classes.First, we present some research results from the DEMIPS’ « Logic and Proof » group. Based on interviews with university teachers, we will show different choices made for these kinds of courses and the different epistemologies relating to the proof that underlie them.Furthermore, since 2009, logic is faintly coming back in the french high school curriculum. Then, how can pre-service teachers rely on their university knowledges and transpose them to teach at high school level? We are going to answer this question of Klein's second discontinuity by presenting results from research in mathematics education about students’ difficulties and by explaining training situations we suggest.

In Georgia, Embracing the Ruptures: Between Geopolitical Shift, Mass Mobilisations, and Authoritarian Transition

This article, informed by the sociology of social movements, looks into the waves of mobilisations in Georgia between February 2022 and the summer of 2024, which preceded a phase of authoritarian consolidation of power. This pivotal period is characterised by an intensification of protests, which reveal the geopolitical tensions that exist within the country. The article draws on the theoretical framework of critical junctures to explore how these mobilisations materialise the rupture between the citizens’ aspirations and the government’s diplomatic shift. Furthermore, it examines the emergence of renewed protest practices, such as the symbolic use of Europe and Ukraine, and a general mistrust of traditional political elites. A focus on the dynamics of civil society prior to the enactment of the ‘foreign agents law’ enables a more detailed examination of the nuances of a resistance confronted with an impending institutional deadlock.

Breakdown and Continuities of Russian Imperialism in the Bessarabian Question after the Russian Revolution

This article examines the breakdown and continuities of Russian imperialism in the Bessarabian question following the 1917 Russian Revolution. It highlights the paradox of the officially anti-imperialist Soviet discourse, which combined the collapse of the old empire with the territorialization of a universalist ideology. The actions of the Communist International and the use of the principle of national self-determination allowed the USSR to transform its imperial project into an ideological model with universal ambitions. By analyzing the Bessarabian conflict and its diplomatic, ideological, and insurrectionary dimensions during the interwar period, culminating in the failure of the Tatar Bunar uprising in 1924, the article shows how the USSR attempted to project revolutionary expansion into the region. This study sheds light on the specificity of a renewed Soviet imperialism, concealed behind the rhetoric of national and social liberation.

When Words Tell Things: A Linguistic Archaeology of the Mother–Child Dyad

This paper tests the hypothesis that certain sound–meaning patterns associated with “mother” and “breast” may reflect a very ancient codiffusion, inherited from the earliest migrations of Homo sapiens and from the centrality of the mother–infant dyad. Within a framework of “linguistic archaeology,” four phonotactic traits are examined across 2,959 languages (“mother”) and 7,322 languages (“breast”) from the Lexibank and ASJP databases: [n]/[ŋ] and [na]/[ŋa] in initial position for “mother,” and [mu] and [amu] for “breast.” Their distribution is assessed through spatial analyses (Moran’s I, binomial z-scores on 2°×2° grids, random permutations, great-circle distances). The results reveal a non-random structuring for [n]/[ŋ] and [mu], with hotspots in Africa, South Asia, Island Southeast Asia, Melanesia, and Australia, regions that align with the southern routes of early Homo sapiens dispersal. The forms [na] and [amu], more geographically restricted, appear as regional archaisms. The strong geographic co-occurrence between [n]/[na] and [mu], contrasting with the limited spread of [amu], suggests an ancient lexical core linking “mother” and “breast,” not reducible to articulatory biases alone. Without positing a single protolanguage, the study shows that linguistic areology can reveal fossil traces of an early cultural structuring around the mother–infant dyad, providing partial support for the hypothesis of an initial cultural unity disseminated during the first out-of-Africa dispersals of Homo sapiens.

The contribution of social invariants to learning social work: an analysis of first-year students’ perceptions

This research examines the place and function of sociological knowledge in social work training, particularly through the teaching of social invariants proposed by Bernard Lahire (2023). These concepts, which can shed light on the fundamental structures of society, are studied here in terms of their reception and perceived usefulness by first-year students in the bachelor’s degree program in social work at Hénallux (Namur, Belgium). The study adopts a mixed approach: a questionnaire administered to 77 students, analyzed using descriptive statistics and correlation tests, is supplemented by eight interviews with students and two interviews with teachers, which are subjected to thematic analysis with a double coding cycle. The results highlight three major functions of invariants: (1) deciphering situations involving users, (2) a more complex understanding, and (3) capitalizing on solutions to address the vulnerabilities of the public. In addition, two specific advantages emerge from social invariants: their explanatory power as general concepts that can be used to elucidate social phenomena while promoting, through their contextual variation, a nuanced interpretation of situations encountered in social intervention, and the inter/transdisciplinary scope of invariants. While a minority of students remain skeptical of theoretical knowledge, the relational and pedagogical quality of teaching appears to be a decisive lever for appropriation. Despite some limitations mentioned, the study concludes that invariants are relevant as integrative tools, articulating sociological intelligibility, reflexivity, and professional intervention.

The Converse of the Real Orthogonal Holant Theorem

The Holant theorem is a powerful tool for studying the computational complexity of counting problems. Due to the great expressiveness of the Holant framework, a converse to the Holant theorem would itself be a very powerful counting indistinguishability theorem. The most general converse does not hold, but we prove the following, still highly general, version: if any two sets of real-valued signatures are Holant-indistinguishable, then they are equivalent up to an orthogonal transformation. This resolves a partially open conjecture of Xia (2010). Consequences of this theorem include the well-known result that homomorphism counts from all graphs determine a graph up to isomorphism, the classical sufficient condition for simultaneous orthogonal similarity of sets of real matrices, and a combinatorial characterization of simultaneously orthogonally decomposable (odeco) sets of symmetric tensors.

Succinct Oblivious Tensor Evaluation and Applications: Adaptively-Secure Laconic Function Evaluation and Trapdoor Hashing for All Circuits

We propose the notion of succinct oblivious tensor evaluation (OTE), where two parties compute an additive secret sharing of a tensor product of two vectors $\mathbf{x} \otimes \mathbf{y}$, exchanging two simultaneous messages. Crucially, the size of both messages and of the CRS is independent of the dimension of $\mathbf{x}$. We present a construction of OTE with optimal complexity from the standard learning with errors (LWE) problem. Then we show how this new technical tool enables a host of cryptographic primitives, all with security reducible to LWE, such as: * Adaptively secure laconic function evaluation for depth-$D$ functions $f:\{0, 1\}^m\rightarrow\{0, 1\}^\ell$ with communication $m+\ell+D\cdot \mathrm{poly}(λ)$. * A trapdoor hash function for all functions. * An (optimally) succinct homomorphic secret sharing for all functions. * A rate-$1/2$ laconic oblivious transfer for batch messages, which is best possible. In particular, we obtain the first laconic function evaluation scheme that is adaptively secure from the standard LWE assumption, improving upon Quach, Wee, and Wichs (FOCS 2018). As a key technical ingredient, we introduce a new notion of \emph{adaptive lattice encodings}, which may be of independent interest.

Digital Reconstruction of a Feminist Literary Past: Topic Modelling Elisa Mújica's Newspaper Criticism (1972–1974)

Elisa Mújica (1918–2003) is increasingly recognised as one of the most important Colombian women writers of the twentieth century. Yet her work as a critic in the Lecturas Dominicales supplement in the newspaper El Tiempo – a central venue in the Colombian literary field – remains under-studied. This article presents a mixed-methods analysis of Mújica's columns from 1972 to 1974, combining topic modelling with close reading under the framework of data feminism. Using latent Dirichlet allocation implemented in R on a corpus of 572 document segments derived from digitised columns, I model six topics. Rather than treating these topics as purely formal clusters, I read them as traces of gendered practices in a literary field still dominated by male authors and authorities. Guided by data feminism (D'Ignazio and Klein 2020), I argue that topic modelling can help make visible the asymmetrical distribution of gendered authority in the archive, while close reading reveals how Mújica simultaneously participates in and questions masculinised canons. The article demonstrates how computational methods and feminist theory can jointly illuminate the politics of literary value in twentieth-century Latin America.Published version, formatted by the journal. DARIAH-EU Working Group DHwiki presents this White Paper about Wikibase and the Wikibase Ecosystem as a digest of its permanent activity in providing documentation about MediaWiki-based software solutions to researchers. The output of the Working group is accessible on its Wikibase instance at https://dhwiki.wikibase.cloud. As diverse as the Working Group itself is the target group of this report: DH researchers, GLAM institutions, contributors to the software platforms provided by Wikimedia, and software developers. When starting to engage with Wikidata and Wikibase, we have seen ourselves sometimes lost in a diverse landscape of disperse documentation resources with different scope and aimed at differently skilled readers. With this contribution, we hope to provide a comfortable pathway towards adopting Wikibase in FAIR Linked Data publishing and collaborative data curation workflows. To help users navigate these platforms, this article brings together the main elements of the Wikibase ecosystem with a specific focus on DH and GLAM usecases. It explains the main structure and features of Wikibase, discusses key processes such as data round-tripping and reconciliation, and examines the role of Wikidata and Wikibase in managing identifiers, authority data and controlled vocabularies. By bringing these aspects together, the paper aims to supportthe use of Wikibase in FAIR-compliant and collaborative data workflows, while also drawing attention to wider issues such as sustainability, governance andreuse.
