Digital Reconstruction of a Feminist Literary Past: Topic Modelling Elisa Mújica's Newspaper Criticism (1972–1974)
Elisa Mújica (1918–2003) is increasingly recognised as one of the most important Colombian women writers of the twentieth century. Yet her work as a critic in the Lecturas Dominicales supplement in the newspaper El Tiempo – a central venue in the Colombian literary field – remains under-studied. This article presents a mixed-methods analysis of Mújica's columns from 1972 to 1974, combining topic modelling with close reading under the framework of data feminism. Using latent Dirichlet allocation implemented in R on a corpus of 572 document segments derived from digitised columns, I model six topics. Rather than treating these topics as purely formal clusters, I read them as traces of gendered practices in a literary field still dominated by male authors and authorities. Guided by data feminism (D'Ignazio and Klein 2020), I argue that topic modelling can help make visible the asymmetrical distribution of gendered authority in the archive, while close reading reveals how Mújica simultaneously participates in and questions masculinised canons. The article demonstrates how computational methods and feminist theory can jointly illuminate the politics of literary value in twentieth-century Latin America.Published version, formatted by the journal. The Wikibase Ecosystem in DH and GLAM
DARIAH-EU Working Group DHwiki presents this White Paper about Wikibase and the Wikibase Ecosystem as a digest of its permanent activity in providing documentation about MediaWiki-based software solutions to researchers. The output of the Working group is accessible on its Wikibase instance at https://dhwiki.wikibase.cloud. As diverse as the Working Group itself is the target group of this report: DH researchers, GLAM institutions, contributors to the software platforms provided by Wikimedia, and software developers. When starting to engage with Wikidata and Wikibase, we have seen ourselves sometimes lost in a diverse landscape of disperse documentation resources with different scope and aimed at differently skilled readers. With this contribution, we hope to provide a comfortable pathway towards adopting Wikibase in FAIR Linked Data publishing and collaborative data curation workflows. To help users navigate these platforms, this article brings together the main elements of the Wikibase ecosystem with a specific focus on DH and GLAM usecases. It explains the main structure and features of Wikibase, discusses key processes such as data round-tripping and reconciliation, and examines the role of Wikidata and Wikibase in managing identifiers, authority data and controlled vocabularies. By bringing these aspects together, the paper aims to supportthe use of Wikibase in FAIR-compliant and collaborative data workflows, while also drawing attention to wider issues such as sustainability, governance andreuse.
